33 Inch Tonkin Bamboo Arrow Shafts
One dozen 33 inch Tonkin bamboo arrow shafts (a limited stock of 39" shafts is available - please let me know if these are of interest). Tonkin bamboo has for centuries been recognised as a very special and strong bamboo species used to make the finest and strongest arrows and in later years some of the very best fly fishing rods. These special qualities are due to the unique way in which the power fibles are evenly spread throughout the diameter of the bamboo giving a strong, light and narrow arrow shaft called by some the natural carbon arrow! Having carefully spine rated and quality checked each shaft I import I am pleased to be able to offer some really nice quality bamboo shafts. Currently available as follows; 15 - 20# available, 20 - 25# available, 25 - 30# available, 30 - 35# available, 35 - 40# available, 40 - 45# available, 45 - 50# available, 50 - 55# available, 55-60# available, 60-65# available, 65-70# available, 70-75# available, not currently available 75-80#, 80-85# available, 85-90# available, 90-95# available, 95-100# available. Please state with your order what spine rating you require. My advise would be to choose a spine rating 5# higher than the current wooden shafts you may use. This Tonkin bamboo is hand picked in China, with many shafts being rejected to use only the best straightest stems of the right size. Each shaft is dried then carefully hand straightened, thoroughly heat tempered, straightened again, the nodes flattened and the shafts sanded smooth. The shafts are then given a temporary protective laquer finish (which should be removed with fine sandpaper or wire wool). These shafts are 33 inches (838mm) long allowing you to shorten them to your draw length. You will find that bamboo provide a very attractive tough arrow. These shafts have a natural taper which makes them forgiving to shoot. You will find these light but strong shafts much more durable that machined wooden shafts. As these shafts are a grown rather than machined arrow there is some natural variation. Though they are straight and shoot really well they are not as perfectly regular as a machined timber shaft. I am sure that you will be happy with them. If you look back through my feedback you will see good comments from some very satisfied customers. A little advice on making up a bamboo arrow. Nocks - My personal preference is to use self nocks. A short 3.5mm wooden plug should be glued into the hollow of the shaft at the nock. See my shop for nock/point plug sets. Binding just behind the nock with silk ribbon or thread is advised. Alternatively cut a taper for a plastic nock as usual. Points - If fitting taper points (target, field or hunting) I would advise fitting a 4mm wooden plug into the end and then cuttingor grinding the taper. Alternatively I sell tanged stainless steel points specifically designed for bamboo arrows. I supply suitable wooden plugs and silk binding ribbon in my ebay shop. Some longer 39 inch shafts are available. Please let me know if they are of interest. For further advice on making up your bamboo arrows please see http://bambooarrows.com/building_a_bamboo_arrow.php#introduction (website under construction). I am happy to provide any other advice you may need on making arrows up from these lovely shafts. Good shooting, Mark 33 Inch Tonkin Bamboo Arrow Shafts
